“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”—Steve Jobs
“When I hear good shit, I want to go make something, but not something like what I just heard. What I feel when I make music is energy, but I’m not thinking about Premier or Pete Rock or Dre when I’m making it. I love their work, but what it is for me is how I feel for the day, you know?”—James D. Yancey during an interview with Y’skid (via kylehenry)
So for the Big Tune Finals, we had to flip a sample for it to be judged by Just Blaze and DJ Premier. The 9 winners of the 1st round had to play their sample flip and 1 producer was to be eliminated, to leave an even # of 8 producers to compete for the rest of the competition. The sample we had to flip was “Hard Times” by Curtis Mayfield. I actually ended up doing my flip a couple hours or so backstage before the event started (talk about pressure!) but I managed to finish it tho, so it all worked out. However, since I was eliminated in the 1st round, I didn’t get to play my flip in the competition so I decided I’d post it up on here for you all to enjoy. What do you think?
